Vox (Spain)
The Spanish far right party, founded in 2013, the first of its family to enter parliament since the transition.
Overview
Vox was founded in 2013 by ex PP politicians around Santiago Abascal, breaking a four decade consensus that kept Francoist heir parties out of parliament. Entering Andalusia in 2018 and Congress in 2019 with over ten percent, it campaigned against regional nationalism, migration, gender law, and coalition politics, and governed with PP in regional pacts. Support slipped after 2023 amid PP distancing. The party brought the European radical right repertoire into Spanish politics, with the historic exception of national unity centralism against Catalan and Basque autonomy.
