Sweden Democrats
The Swedish far right party, founded in 1988, now the second largest party and government supporter.
Overview
The Sweden Democrats grew from the 1980s Keep Sweden Swedish movement, spending two decades on the fringe before the 2010 entry into the Riksdag. Under Jimmie Akesson it divorced its extremist founders, professionalized, and rose to twenty percent by 2022, where the Kristersson minority government depends on it through the Tido cooperation, with policy influence on migration and criminal justice unmatched for a support party. Mainstream acceptance remains contested, other parties refusing formal coalition. The party represents the normalization of the radical right in the last European state to hold a cordon sanitaire against it.
