Economic Freedom Fighters
The South African far left party of Julius Malema, founded in 2013.
Overview
The EFF was founded by expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema in 2013, demanding land expropriation without compensation, nationalization of mines and banks, and a radical economic freedom charter. Its red beret uniform, parliament disruption tactics, and street marches made it the loudest voice of South African radicalism, polling around ten percent and holding kingmaker roles in metros and provinces. Its politics fuse black consciousness, Marxist rhetoric, populist leadership, and controversy over tenders and VBS bank. The EFF reshaped the discourse on land and inequality and models the militant youth left of the post liberation era.
