Brothers of Italy
The Italian national conservative party of Giorgia Meloni, founded in 2012, leading government since 2022.
Overview
Fratelli d Italia split from Berlusconi People of Freedom in 2012, carrying the heritage of the postwar Italian Social Movement, itself heir of the republican right, into a modern national conservative party. Giorgia Meloni rebuilt it from two percent in 2018 to twenty six in 2022, winning the premiership at the head of a right coalition with the League and Forza Italia. Her government supports NATO and Ukraine, tax cuts, family policy, and migration restriction, holding steady approval. The party represents the most successful normalization of the post fascist tradition in Western Europe, contested by its critics.
