Renaissance (France)
The centrist party of Emmanuel Macron, founded in 2016 as En Marche, renamed Renaissance in 2022.
Overview
Emmanuel Macron founded La Republique En Marche weeks before resigning as economy minister, and in 2017 his year old movement won the presidency and a parliamentary majority, shattering the PS-Republican duopoly. Renamed Renaissance in 2022 within a wider alliance with the Democratic Movement and Horizons, the party governed with relative and then minority pluralities, surviving no confidence votes in 2024 only through fragmentation. Its politics are economically liberal, pro European, and socially progressive, staffing governments with technocrats and industry figures. The experiment created the first party of the center to govern France without roots in either historic bloc, at the cost of deepening the fragmentation of the party system.
