Overview
PTI, the Movement for Justice, was founded by cricketer Imran Khan in 1996, campaigning for welfare, anti corruption, and a new Pakistan, winning his Lahore seat in 2002 and national breakthrough in 2013, taking Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In 2018, with military establishment blessing later contested, PTI won national government, governing until Khan 2022 ouster by no confidence. His mobilization of youth and diaspora survived his imprisonment and party suppression of 2023-2024, the bat symbol and independent candidates defying the crackdown in polls. PTI exemplifies the charismatic movement party confronting both dynastic parties and the deep state.
