La France Insoumise
The French left populist party of Jean-Luc Melenchon, founded in 2016.
Overview
La France Insoumise, Unbowed France, launched in 2016 around Jean-Luc Melenchon, a former Socialist senator, with a mass rally and digital campaign style borrowed from movement politics. Its program, ecological planning, a sixth republic with parliamentary dominance, price controls, and wealth taxes, carried Melenchon near the runoff in 2017 and 2022. LFI anchored the Nupes and then the Nouveau Front Populaire coalitions of the left in 2022-2024, while clashing with partners over leadership and antisemitism controversies. The party organized around local action groups rather than traditional dues paying membership, pioneering a digital first, leader centered model on the French left.
