Civic Platform
The Polish liberal conservative party, founded in 2001, of Donald Tusk, governing since 2023.
Overview
Civic Platform formed in 2001 around Donald Tusk and Andrzej Olechowski as a pro market, pro European liberal conservative party, governing 2007-2015 with Tusk then Ewa Kopacz as premier, delivering Poland through the financial crisis unscathed and into EU mainstream. Tusk rose to European Council president 2014-2019. In opposition the party absorbed the 2020 presidential near miss of Rafa Trzaskowski and led the broad 2023 coalition that returned to power. It anchors the EPL conservative liberal family, strong in cities and the west, against PiS dominance in smaller towns and the east.
